Sur Lie is a boutique wine and spirits importer based in Vancouver, BC, that operates across Western Canada.

We started with the goal of introducing new wine and spirits to market to contribute meaningfully to the diversity and quality of drinking culture in the places we operate.

We believe that food, and specifically drink, are often used to mark special occasions, whether milestones or simply quality time with friends and family. Wine, cocktails, wee drams and cheeky pints all help us celebrate the people and occasions that we love, and we love that.

Our selections stem from our belief in the importance of stewardship. We prefer to work with family owned and operated companies who are good stewards of the land they work, the people who work for them, and the communities they live in and engage with.

Some of our suppliers are certified organic or biodynamic, though this is not a requirement for us, nor does certification alone mean that someone is doing things right.

What you will find is that our suppliers are people who put in the hard yards, not looking for shortcuts or easy solutions in their vineyards, wineries, or distilleries. Hands on, focused holistic attention to detail, and reliance on skill and experience rather than on chemical intervention.

We enjoy throwing the odd curveball, whether that is an unusual grape variety or style from a familiar region or something delightful from somewhere off the radar.

We also enjoy finding what we believe to be gaps in the market and introducing compelling wines and spirits from mis-represented, under-represented, or wholly unexpected places.

We work hard to bring in things that taste great, and that hopefully people will wish they’d bought two bottles of instead of one, and that they’d happily recommend and share.

We hope that through our work the drinking populace of the places where we operate might choose to not necessarily drink more, but drink better.
